Photographer’s Note

This is a view of Biggesee, the fifth largest German water reservoir, situated in southern Westphalia between the towns Attendorn (north) and Olpe (south). Here some particulars:

construction time: from 1956 to 1965
maximum water surface: 8,76 km²,
total capacity: 171,7 Mio. m³,
total length: about 20 km,
catchment area: 287 km².

The lake serves to maintain the same level of water in Ruhr river as well as providing water for the Ruhrgebiet - with 4435 km² and a population of some 5.3 million, it is the largest urban agglomeration in Germany.

Apart from the possibilities for water sports (sailing, surfing, rowing, canoeing, fishing, swimming and diving), two passenger ships ply the lake. There are different camping sites along the lake and two official diving areas as well as a diving school and for divers it's very interesting to "visit" the rests of the former villages on the bottom of the lake. Additionally, there are numerous cycle and hiking routes round the lake and its environs. Now in autumn you can have wonderful and calm walking and bicycle tours here.

You can read and see more about Biggesee HERE.

In workshop you can see a wider view.
