Photographer’s Note

Unfortunately I had to crop the photo for the small version according to the measure standards of TE. My note was written for the large version where you can see a much wider view, about 180° ...

This is the westward view from mount Löwenburg - with 353 m the second highest mountain of Siebengebirge, a low mountain range some kilometres south of Bonn. On top of Löwenburg there's a huge castle ruin. You can discover in the map view right hand where I put the marker on it. Siebengebirge is of volcanic origin and the oldest German nature reserve - and a most worthwhile and well signposted hiking region.

Deep in the valley you can see Rhine river (60 m) and a bit right of the middle you can see mount Drachenfels (321 m) with its castle ruin ansd the hotel/restaurant up there. It is said that Drachenfels is the most climbed mountain of Europe - with up to 2 million visitors a year. During a Rhine tour it's a must see, a "must climb".
A bit right hand under the dip to the next hill you can see a bright quarry wall in the forest. Here the stones for Cologne Cathedral have been quarried out. They were transported by ships from here downstream about 40 kilometres to Cologne.

The rightmost mountain in my picture is mount Petersberg with its
famous hotel on top. It is the guest house of the Federal Government and nearly all important statesmen and stateswomen or representatives of countries have spent the night up there. Also the most important first Afghanistan conference took place here in 2001. Tourists also can visit it and a "Kännchen Kaffe and a piece of cake" on the terrace there are a special experience.

Left of Petersberg in background you can see the city of Bonn with the glaring Post Tower.

Rightmost, unfortunately not here, but to the naked eye even Cologne cathedral is visible - about 35 kilometres away.

The town left hand in foreground is Bad Honnef, also a well known tourist's destination. In background you can see the golf ball of world's biggest "Radom" (Radar Dome) near the small town Wachtberg with a diameter of 49 m and a hight of 54 m.

This is a stitch out of 7 photos - a try. I hope you like it.
