‘Monschau - View from the bridge’

Even on a wintry Saturday lots of tourists are swarming through the streets of Monschau.
Being a border town Monschau hasn't only many German visitors but also tourists from neighboring Belgium and from the Netherlands.

Many people crowd in on the bridge for a snapshot. The small bridge shakes among the many tourists. I have to wait for that one second while everyone is standing still and the bridge railing is no longer shaking.
Well, this is the result. Something for the romantic souls among us?

Hi Paul,

beautiful view of Monschau in the last day of previous year. Excellent night shot, I imagine it was cold there. very attractive composition with the beautiful half-timered houses so close to the stram and very romantic castle above, nicely lit.
I was in Monschau in 1980, it was in other century, even millennium :). i remember that I like it verz much.

The beautiful view from the bridge on the night the town located above the mountain river. Long time exposure caused the water looks like a quicksilver stream. Interesting ruins of a castle on a hill in the background.

What great light and colours here. I really like the way the buildings are perched precariously alongside the river. They eye travels through and rests finally on that lit ruin at the top of the scene. Good exposure.

Good evening Paul,
The prolonged 1 sec. exp. gave the water a sliky texture. But also made a night scenery vivid in tones under illumination's.
Fine upwards view on the castle, from low as houses along the river.

I must confess that I've not heard of Monschau, though judging by your photograph, I certainly should have done! I like the variety of light sources, and the lingering blue in the late evening sky. The rushing water too has benefitted from the 1 second exposure. You've made me want to find out more and go there!

Prachtige opname van dit schilderachtige stadje. De compositie en belichting zijn erg mooi en vanaf een goed standpunt genomen met veel diepte. Monschau op zijn beste kant ! Die vakwerhuizen zijn bijzonder mooi en de kleuren in deze foto geven het geheel een sprookjesachtige aanblik. Het stromende water zorgt voor een schitterend effect door de lage sluitertijd. Monchau vind ik echt een prachtig stadje. Mooi gedaan, Paul.

Hi Paul,
well, it is easy to see why Monschau is so popular. Very charming place with beautiful old architecture located around the bridge. To be honest, i have never heard about Monchau before but now i can see it is a place well worth a visit. Good pov and good handling of the light, perhaps a little bit unsharp but the overall impression is very good in my opinion. Nice blue color of the sky, Tfs!

Dag Paul,

Negen of tien jaar geleden nam ik op de zelfde plaats in Monschau deze foto, maar een dag foto, wanneer de rivier bijna droog was.
U foto is mooi, en ik hou wel van dit kleine pictoresque stadje.
Plezierig om er een dagje rond te slenteren en wat mooie foto's tenemen.
Prachtige compositie, mooi foto werk, bedankt.

this is very beautiful place and well shot. I like the POV and the delicate bend of the road. Very good light management and attention to details. Nice and saturated colors and well given contrast. I am missing a little bit of sharpness but it is a minor detail.

un notturno che sembra finto per quanto è bello!
Le acque del fiume trasformate in seta fanno da bel contorno alle tipiche case del luogo caratterizzate dalle assi di egno inserite nella facciata, ma la cosa più bella sono i ruderi che dominano il borgo dall'alto della collina.
L'ora blu è stata da te sfruttata a dovere (cosa non facile) gestendo bene un misto di luce naturale (poca) ed artificiale (tanta).
Una bella composizione che merita un plauso.

A delightful shot indeed! Not only is the light beautifully captured, but the effect of blue hour sky has a wonderful effect on the scene. Beautiful timber houses (looks rather bew) which bounds the stream with rapidly flowing waters. The focal point is the old structure up on the hill lit by the artificial light! Beautiful!

Hello Paul,
a very intriguing setting rendered fascinating by your composition and lighting. You have given great depth and perspective and have made the most of the architectural patterns and the colours. I like very much the variations in lighting and the capture of the running water that give a dramatic aspect to the neat arrangement of the scenery. Hello Paul. The picturesque town of Monschau is worth a visit. Here everything is like in the age of Romanticism. The city is able to present all of these beauties. I see that even the nightly Monschau looks very nice. My compliments for this great picture.
