Photographer's Note

The lovely medieval fish market area in Cologne, sits between the imposing Klosterkirche Groß Sankt Martin or Great St. Martin's Church, dating from the tenth century, and the banks of the Rhine. Beautifully-painted houses frame this lovely square that today is filled with cafe tables and umbrellas. From this square, medieval cobbled lanes lead into the rest of the charming Altstadt, or Old City.
Most of this area was devastated in World War II, but has been painstakingly reconstructed to glorious effect.
