Koblenzer Tor Photo

Photographer’s Note

This magnificient Baroque building spans over the main road S9 leading to Koblenz and is part of the elector's castle in Bonn, a good photo of which you can find here thanks to Frank.

The Koblenzer Tor (or Michaelstor since this part of the complex was originally used as the headquarter of the young and soon dissolved St. Michael Military Order)was built 1751-1757 on the order of the Prince Elector Clemens August by Michel Leveilly. The figures on the facade symbolize the four virtues of the order: devoutness, persistence, strength and fidelity. In the middle (above the coat of arms) you can see the gilded statue of archangel St Michael lifting his sword against the dragon.

Hi Laszlo,
Excellent capture of this beautiful facade. You have chosen a good POV and the colours and sharpness are great. I am not totally convinced that your use of a polarizer is a best choice here. Personally I always take one photo without and one with such a filter TFS and have nice Sunday evening!

Hi LAszlo,
a very splendid façade of this magnificent Baroque building,with the perfect decoration elements, as the statues and the columns,make it even more impressive.The grey colour of its façade, make it look a little bit dark,as a total of the scene.Excellent the sharpness and the clarity.

altra bella testimonianza architettonica che va ad incrementare la tua stupenda collezione all'interno della tua gallery. L'immagine mi sembra un pò sottoesposta, ma forse è voluto per aumentare i contrasti luminosi. In ogni caso hai fatto un piacevole lavoro, sempre accompagnato da note interessanti. Bravo!

Hallo Laszlo,
sehr schöne Aufnahme dieser Fassade mit kräftigen Farben und tollem Licht. Auch die Schärfe ist tadellos, so dass man viele Details von dem Gebäude erkennen kann. Gefällt mir.

Da war ich schon mal in Koblenz und habe diese Tor nicht gesehen. Wunderschöne Architektur im Barockstil.

una bellissima foto dai colori molto forti, interessante la spiegazione nella nota, come sempre. quello che trovo incredibile e' che questi edifici sono sempre conservati in perfetto stato cosa che non accade qui in Italia e questo mi dispiace.

Wie oft bin ich dort schon durchgegangen ...
Ganz interessant ist hier, wie die Säulen durch die Licht-/Schattenverhältnisse vom Gebäude "abgerückt"werden und das Foto plastisch machen. ein tollerfotografischer Effekt!Danke auch fürden link ;-))

Direkt links daneben ist das Englische Seminar der Uni Bonn und somit auch mein "Hauptstudienort". Das Tor ist wirklich eines der schönsten in Bonn und mir gefallen hier besonders die starken Farben und die Schatten. Der Baum links oben gibt dem Bild noch einen sehr guten, satten Grünton.

Laszlo,
This is a nicely composed shot using the car to emphasize the road passing through the building. The angle of the shot creates depth and direction. The lighting and colors are outstanding and the sharpness and details of the architecture is fine.
