Photographer's Note
Heidelberg lies on the river Neckar, which joins the river Rhine at Mannheim just little bit down (about 20 km from Heidelberg. It is home to one of Europe's oldest educational institutes, the Ruprecht Karls University founded (University of Heidelberg)in 1386 among others... so this is a place of students and has also a lot of night clubs and activities!:-)But what I love the most it is Schloss Heidelberg... actually it is ruins of this beautiful castle in a mix of styles from Gothic to Renaissance and surrounded by charming garden. To get there you have to "climb" the hill cause the castle lays on top of it and has a view of the riverside and rest of city. Heidelberg has long and "stormy" history... it was ruined and rebuild several times (as much as a lot of adding were made during the whole its life)... The last attempt of restoring it was disturbed by a lightning which struck the Castle in 1764 and ended all attempts at rebuilding. Today, the hall of this castle is used for festivities, e.g. dinner banquets, balls and theatre performances and etc. Here, on this picture is part of the remaining wall of "schloss"... I was really amazed by this place and it is one of my favorite stops in Germany. A lot of people visits Heidelberg attracted by its history.
