Photographer’s Note
This is a "bottleneck" in the old town of Limburg in the germany federal state of Hessen. You can see that it is possible to built a house with a much more bigger floor space than the realty.
I think the joy at this "trick" didn't last long. Already in the Middle Ages some communities - besides the real estate tax - raised taxes on bays and overhanging parts of buildings. Concerning this creativity of the authorities there hasn't changed much in the last centuries...

Hi Frank, good shot, the strange old buildings are well composed wit the small lane in the middle and the beautiful red wood insert on the facades.

Hi Frank. Quite a fascinating composition, filled with geometric intricacies. Excellent play of light and shade and the PoV gives a great sense of depth. The individual lit by the sun at the end of the alley is a masterful addition.Regard. Klaudio.

Hi Frank,
Excellent shot. These houses are really nice and seem to be very close. The inhabitants can easily talk and exchange ideas.

Hello Frank
Ufff, tight... I would aware of being pressed between these two houses ;). Excellent capture. I like the structure of the buildings, colours and lighting at the image.
Greetings from temporarily not hot Poland :)

Guten Tag Frank,
So it happened often especially in mediaeval cities, rimmed with narrow walls or with the building among walls. Builder′s lots were dear wherethrough small. Then grew slender houses , and lanes were narrow - too narrow even for the one-horse- equipage. nicely you showed this detail. Very good perspective, excellent colours and the plays of lights.
Meanwhile I greet You very heartily from Poznan,
Jurek

Hi Frank.
What a play of colours and lights and shadows! Very difficult contrast between the alleyway and sunlit fronts of the houses. You mastered it exceptionally well.
Good note too, as usually. One question: "Do the neighbours talk to each other?" Living at such close quarters I would not want to even see them.
Beautiful picture, makes me wish I could go there to take some myself, stop for a wine or beer too.
Greetings from Kanada.

Always fascinating structures, this is amazing, the windows are so near one to the other than we can pass from one house to the other without come down in the road :-)
Well done, image a little overexposed but compliments.
Ciao

Hi , Frank.
You really live in a picturesque and interesting area !
I like how the half-timbered houses are so colourful and well restored and kept !
This alley and the houses are very interesting indeed !!
Coming out fron this gasthaus , a person could easily feel woozy when looking at this house - if he wasn't already :-)
Greetings from what seems to be indian summer here in Denmark !

Hi Frank!
A very, very interesting story about the link between taxitation and architecture. We call these Еrkers just the same and they are very popular on 19th century houses in my country too. Can you give me some idea how much does such Gasthouse charge for a 2-persons bedroom?
Excellent focus in perfect lighting!
Danke!
