Photographer's Note

A detail view of the Hamburg Stock Exchange.

Towards the end of the middle ages, the Hanseatic League began to decline and Hamburg began to make its own way and develop its own economic infrastructure. Behind the Town Hall, on the Adolphsplatz one can see the Börse (Stock Exchange). Founded in 1558, it is the oldest stock market in Germany. The original building burnt down in 1842 in the great fire.
