Photographer’s Note

The route from Edmund-Probst-Haus to the Oytal is one of the most scenically rewarding trails of the entire Allgäu Alps. While sure-footedness is a pre-requisite in some very narrow and exposed sections, it requires above all stamina. It is a long walk with some steep ascend & descend and finally a long descend to the Oy Valley. Photo taken shortly after leaving Edmund-Probst-Haus. On lower right you see cable cars that can take you to the top of the Nebelhorn (2224M). The Nebelhornbahn cable car system originates not far from the town center of Oberstdorf. On the left rising above the saddle you can see the Höfats (2259M). In the middle is a valley covered in clouds.

The Allgäu Alps, though not the highest in Germany, it is considered the most popular hiking destination in Germany or at least equal in popularity to the Wetterstein Group around Zugspitze. Two fifth of the Allgäu Alps is in Austrian territory.
