Photographer’s Note
This second image of the Fuggerei shows the central fountain. This little village within the town of Augsburg continues to function as a cheap housing project for people who need it (my previous posting tells you more about this) and still gives the visitor the feel of life there at the height of the Fuggerpower. The truth, though, is that little of what you see here is original. The Fuggerei was destroyed completely twice during it's history, the last time being by the bombings of the World War II. The Fugger heirs had the good taste to restore it more or less to it's original state.
