Mannheim`s industry ,the river " Neckar " and a fire in the sky.
The successor to the Karl Benz automobile manufacturing companies begun in Mannheim, DaimlerChrysler has had a large presence in Mannheim. Today, cars trucks and buses are assembled there. The Swiss Roche Diagnostic group (formerly known as Boehringer Mannheim) has its division headquarters in Mannheim. Additionally, the city also hosts large factories/offices of ABB, Alstom, BASF (Ludwigshafen), Bilfinger Berger, Bombardier, Fuchs Petrolub AG, John Deere, Siemens, SCA, Südzucker and other companies.

Mannheim is a city in Germany. With 307,640 inhabitants it is the second largest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg after the capital Stuttgart.

Mannheim is situated at the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Neckar, in the northwestern corner of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The Rhine separates Mannheim from the adjacent Rhineland-Palatinate city of Ludwigshafen. The Hessian border is north of the city. Mannheim is the largest city of the Rhine Neckar Area, a metropolitan area with 2.4 million inhabitants.

Mannheim is unique among German cities in that its central area is laid out in a grid pattern (called Quadrate, squares), much like many North American cities. The main route through the squares leads to an enormous 18th century palace. This former seat of the Electors of the Palatinate now houses the University of Mannheim.

Hallo Andreas,
Several times i have passed Mannheim but never been in to the city it self. Next week i will pass it again heading for Swiss.
Thanks to the ship you ended up with a nice picture. The ship brings good balance in the foreground camparing to the beautiful but dominant sky. The warm glow through that bridge is wonderful...i like that part a lot.

Hi, Leo. The industrial aspect of the city is clearly visibe here, but you've succeeded in turning this rather ugly area into something nice thanks to the beautiful sunset you've captured. It was also a good idea to include the two boats in your composition.

Très beau coucher de soleil sur ce paysage industriel. La composition est belle evec les courbes du pont et des rives etles lignes verticales des usines.

Lovely clear evening shot. Great contrast between the patches of orange sky and the grey clouds. The boats are so well placed giving balance and adding to the depth.

Hallo Andreas,
von Mannheim weiß ich wenig, z.B. Thomas Schaaf dort geboren wurde. Dass es eine Industriestadt am Neckar ist, war mir nicht so präsent. Wieder ein Stück neues. Mit dem Schiff hat das ganze etwas Leben, da hast Du ein Stück Glück gehabt. Das Licht im Wolkenhimmel gibt eine schöne Abendatomsphäre und läßt die sonst meist tristen Industriebauten daran teilhaben.

was ein imposanter auf den Fluss. Die Wellen des Schiffs zeigen ein umgekehrtes V und führen damit das Auge wunderbar auf die Brücken und weiter auf den explodierenden Hintergrund.

Sehr schönes Foto der Mannheimer Industriekulisse im orange-roten Licht des Sonnenuntergangs. Die Ruhe des Flusses und das Wechselspiel der dunklen Wolken mit den hell erleuchteten Himmelsabschnitten lassen diese Komposition ausgesprochen stimmungsvoll wirken.

This is really good Leo - the contrast between the industrial mess on the riverbank and that wonderful sky gives this a lot of impact.
The shapes of the bridge, cranes and factories are interesting, and the boat heading down the river with it's V-shaped wake behind relieves what would have otherwise have been an empty expanse of water.

as you say, fire in the sky. Within an industrial city this is kind of euphimism but then again, this is photography which is an art as clearly this is demonstrated by you

the skyline of mannheim doesnt look like the best one from this point of view but the general mood of the shot with the sunset colours around is very nice leo...
i ve chosen this shot because i will probably have the chance to see your hometown with my own eyes very soon... i guess i will be going to heidelberg -to work at the thoraxklinik- in the last two weeks of november... could not meet in turkey, but why not in germany...
