Photographer's Note

View to south-east side of Black Forest frpm village of Hoechenschwand located at an elevation 1,000m a.s.l.

Most of Black Forest is densely forested with very dark passages, even during bright sunny day. From there the name Black Forest originated, basically because all the trees put together make it look black.

The sheep herd in the photo, which is usually accompanied by 2-3 dogs and one shepherd, are moving across the meadows during whole winter, from late autumn until early spring.

The whole season the shepherd is staying with the sheep herd without roof over the head, but the local people in the area which the sheep are crossing offering some food and also possibility to take warm bath or shower from time to time.
The sheep herd can include 100 or more sheep.
