Photographer’s Note

We are now on the Markplatz, where is, on the left, the Baroque city-hall, center of local politics and municipal government.
It is also a strategic place to admire the ruins of the Heidelberg Castle, Heidelberger Schloss. Located on a hill overlooking the city, it was built in the XVth century. Caught between two hills, it allowed the watch of the Neckar Valley.
It was in 1689 that French troops destroyed the city during the war of succession of the Palatinate before to blow up the castle in 1693, which will remain in a state of ruin.
The ruins of the castle is considered to be the purest example of Renaissance architecture. The former residence of the Prince Electors of the Palatinate overlooks the city where many poets and thinkers of romanticism found inspiration.
The castle offers a wonderful view over the roofs of the old town, the Neckar River and the famous philosophers way ....
