A little walk on the bridge Alte Brücke, spanning the Neckar, while the sun declines behind the hill and the cold mist appears...
The four wooden predecessors Karl-Theodor Bridge were regularly destroyed by floods, frost or fire.
When in 1784, the wooden bridge was destroyed once again, the voter Karl Theodor ordered to build a new bridge in red sandstone, a stone widely used in Heidelberg.
The bridge is guarded by a neo-classical portal flanked by two white towers, and statues that seem to watch over the many passers...
