Germany claim to have the best road system in Europe. Network of Autobhans cross the country from all sides, with maintenance and services in high quality.
But, very often when driving on those Autobhans, any driver encountered a traffic-jam due to maintenance work done all the time to keep roads in best shape and also for some other reasons: Here we see the No.5 route that runs from Basel, Switzerland, till far north as Bad-Harsfeld (50.816, 9.533).
This view is a few miles long jam just north of Bruchsal, 49.19, 8.586 on the map.
Pic. taken from a bus window, moving northbound on the other side, fortunately. A 16:9 aspect ratio.
*** As Malgo added, there is a sign "Wir bauen fuer Sie" ("We build for you") at the end of the leg on the Autobhan where work is done.

Very true. I hate going through Germany and what to do when going to France? They have a large network of good highways but they always rebuild them. (Wir bauen fuer Sie). Even without it, going fast and to have never ending column of trucks on one side and the car passing you with the greater speed on the other is horrid. One good thing is that you do not have to pay for it. Good reportage shot.
Warm regrads MAlgo

You have captured well the action on the autobhan. The ppoint of view is showing the details, the colors of the cars and of the trucks. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Traffic jam on that highway of Germany Ike, there are too much cars in some countries and the roads are crowded, depending of the time of the day also
Good daily life sample, it may appear a common scene especially for these big trucks drivers but it's interesting to see
Have a good afternoon

You're capturing well this traffic scene by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the spectacle in which the car is congested on the highway (Autohans). Probably, to a user, waiting will be hard. I consider maintenance as it is better to carry out by deciding on time in the night with few users, etc. Although a highway is congested in Japan at the consecutive holidays in May and the Bon Festival, and an end of the year with many homecoming visitors, I don't hear much traffic congestion other than it except a traffic accident.

As a former Calif Department of Transportation agent/analyst I got a chuckle out of this crowded autobahn image, because we have the notorious distinction of the most crowded freeways this side of New York City.
When visitors to California ask what is the distance from point A to point B, the usual response is in minutes, rather than miles. It may only be 12 miles from downtown L.A. to Burbank but the response is ususally: "the distance is about half an hour".
And even worse when we have the dreaded "gridlock".
Have an excellent weekend,

the perspective you gave to this view has created a sense of dynamism that provides a sort of relief to the feeling of suffocation caused by the jam, the tight framing and the green "wall" in the background. At least the greenery brings in a pleasant freshness that may be some sort of consolation to the blocked commuters. You've achieved great clarity through the bus window, lovely lighting and good contrasting colours. The description of the scene is very effective. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Traffic jam is a universal phenomenon. You can run away from it even in the best of networks.Nice daily life image from Germany.I love the simplicity of your composition.Excellent composition, good presentation too. Very well done, TFS.

I like the reflection of the upper greenery which excludes the vehicles below. The diagonal axis of the road adds dynamism and sharpness is superb. The red Hoffner truck contrasts well against the blue sky. Good density and perspective. Have a great weekend!

Pff c'est comme sur le périphérique à Lyon :-) un trafic qui ne semble plus finir, bonne prise en diagonal, la netteté, les détails bien capturer depuis la vitre du bus

Seems like traffic jam is a way of life for most big cities, that's why I don't like California that much. We have traffic jam in Las Vegas but not as bad. Drive safe. TFS.

A very sharp shot, given that you were moving in a bus when you took it. This chaos is something I'm used to seeing in Italy, but it in the famed Germany. As you point out though, I suppose they need to constantly maintain this brilliant road system, and the traffic jam we see is often the result. Excellent reportage shot, that has made me think a lot more about the practical aspects of tourism and transport.

Ciao Ike, Amazing scene with great traffic, excellent clarity, splendid light and colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Good shot of the traffic jam on the autobahn. Nice to see that German efficiency has its hiccups as well. Lovely lighting in this shot and good colour considering it was taken through the window of a coach. The diagonal crash barrier adds a nice separation in the shot.

Very well captured, my friend. This picture says more than words. Actually, the main reason for me to change the area.
Of course are there quieter areas in Germany. I do not want to get a dispute with someone.
Have a nice day

I guess no matter where we go in the world, there will inevitably be traffic along the main roads...and what can I say, this picture pretty much sums it up! I hope it wasn't as bad on your side.
I have to laugh a little, as most people I'm guessing...the association with the autobahn is open lanes and high speeds. This image would obviously contradict that idea in an instant! I suppose there's no escaping it, so what better way to put it to use...photograph it! :) It may not be aesthetic, but it is real life and most certainly a 'daily event.' Nicely taken. Have a great day ahead.
mirosu (8216) 2013-10-18 3:29
I like this photo, very typical for Deutsche Autobahnen, especially during summer holiday months. I don't know how many hours I pent in one of these traffic-jams. Thanks for posting it.

Before I even read your note, I thought "behind a glass pane." This is not to criticize your photo, but my eyes have come to recognize that special tint that extra layer of glass gives to photographs, one that I have not learned to remove completely. It is interesting that the naked eye does not detect that effect, I have read somewhere that the brain does automatic compensation.
Anyway, back to your photo, I like your composition: The median, the oncoming lane, the wall of vehicles and the wall of green all work together to strengthen the perspective in this photo.
nikkitta (9023) 2013-10-26 14:47
Oppsss like Argentina and this is first world, may be they are in better shape but the jams are the same
And also big trucks mixed with car at day
Interesting transportation capture Ike
Te deseo un buen fin de semana
