Potsdamer Platz, a photo from Berlin, East

Photographer's Note

The shot of an entrance hall (one of two) of the new underground regional train station (Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz).

Potsdamer Platz is an important public square and traffic intersection in the centre of Berlin, lying about one kilometre south of the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag (German Parliament Building), and close to the southeast corner of the Tiergarten park. It is named after the city of Potsdam, some 25 km to the south west, and marks the point where the old road from Potsdam passed through the city wall of Berlin at the Potsdam Gate. After developing within the space of little over a century from an intersection of rural thoroughfares into the most bustling traffic intersection in Europe, it was totally laid waste during World War II and then left desolate during the Cold War era when the Berlin Wall bisected its former location. Since German reunification, Potsdamer Platz has been the site of major redevelopment projects. More on: Wikipedia.

That's a very nice and interesting urban & architecture picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, black borders, chosen pov and, above all, original and attractive composition are all excellent photo qualities!

A good take on modern architecture. The neon sign lets us know exactly where the shot was taken and you have positioned this well in a strong diagonal alignment across the frame. The lit up office building makes an excellent background, suggesting that you are at the heart of a busy area of the city.

Je suis justement en train de lire un livre le Phillip Kerr où cet endroit est souvent mentionné. Il doit y avoir une grande différence entre celui des années 40 et aujourd'hui. C'est très moderne.

C'era un solo modo per rendere molto grafica quest'immagine, ed è quello che hai scelto tu, cioè mettere la scritta in diagonale per creare un'effetto molto efficace.

un sujet qui me rappelle de merveilleux souvenirs de l'année dernière, ma visite de Berlin, une des plus belles villes d'Europe. Je t'invite d'ailleurs à parcourir mes prises de vue de cette capitale, tu vas aussi y retrouver des souvenirs.

What a great urban night shot! I like all of the lines from the different buildings, and the way the lights shine against the dark background. The diagonal placement of the street sign, cutting across the entire frame, is great, too. You show us the modern side of Berlin with a wonderful presentation.

Hello Malgorzata,
a wonderful, striking composition of lights and patterns with a strong graphical effect. The picture is put together and framed very carefully and studiously and the clear lines and patterns that compose it interact in a magnificent way. I love the superb clarity and the luminous colours as well as the view into the tall building on the right, which brings another dimension to this graphical picture. Before I took up photography, I would never have appreciated this type of shot; now, I love it! You have combined the different colours and textures in a delightful pattern of thirds, with the name plate strongly positioned in a statement emblazened across the frame.

Hi Gosia,

Not easy to manage this type of lighting situation, but it appears that you pulled it off just fine! :) So much attention is put on the Sony Center, and well deserved, but it's nice to see something that represents the entire "platz." I really like the simplicity of this image, no need to show off something big and bold when a photo such as this gives the same, if not greater impact. Brilliantly composed with a great depth of field that keeps it all in focus. Fantastic idea and execution! Have a pleasant Sunday,
