Photographer’s Note

Amateur of opera, I could not pass by Dresden without photographing Semperoper (in WS a day sight)
The Semperoper is the opera house of the Saxon State Opera Dresden (German: Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden) and the concert hall of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden in Dresden, Germany, and is one of the most famous in the world. It was first built in 1841, by architect Gottfried Semper.It had to be rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in 1869. This second one was constructed in Neo-Renaissance style in 1878. The building is considered to be a prime example of "Dresden-Baroque" architecture. It is situated on the Theater Square in central Dresden on the bank of the Elbe River. During the last weeks of World War II in 1945 the building was destroyed again - this time by Allied bombing and the subsequent fire storms. Exactly 40 years later, on February 13, 1985 the opera was rebuilt almost the same as it was before the war. It reopened with the same opera that was performed last before the destruction in 1945: Weber's Der Freischütz.During the flood of the Elbe in 2002 the building suffered heavy water damage. With substantial help from around the world, it reopened in December 2002.
The Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden: a house with an international reputation, with a distinguished orchestra, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and a worldranking roster of artists plus a vast array of guest stars, who are the talk of the town.
The opera chorus, founded by Carl Maria von Weber: well-known beyond the borders of Germany for concerts and CD productions with the Sächsische Staatskapelle.
This is where operatic history was made: world premières of Richard Wagner’s «Rienzi», «Der fliegende Holländer» and «Tannhäuser». And the inseparable link to Richard Strauss: nine of his operas made their first stage appearances here, among them «Salome», «Der Rosenkavalier» and «Elektra».

Hi Jean Jacques!
Both are good shots.
Here I`m missing a bit sharpness at both sides,but in the center are fine details to view.Good contrast with the nearly black sky and nice stars around the lamps.

Hello Jean J:

Without doubt, a beautiful scene.

But the most important in how it shows, in one aspect night. There is a big contrast between the golden tones full of light and the dark sky.

The long exposure time, has been very successful in defining clearly the shot.

ce monument est superbe,et la nuit le rend plus magique avec ces couleurs dorées qui se détachent sur le noir!Comme Leo,je me demande si ça ne manque pas légèrement de netteté,mais en même temps,c'est grâce à ça que l'image est douce,alors..?

superbe prise nocture et une gestion magistrale de la lumiere doree à souhaits. la perspective nous donne une legere impression de penché sur la droite. tu as bien fait de te deporter afin de ne pas centrer ce fier cavalier sur l'image.

Merci pour cette belle photo et le commentaire qui l'accompagne.
Cette architecture refaite à l'identique a très fière allure. Cette photo nocturne est une réussite. Je pense que tu aurais préféré la faire à l'heure bleue mais en voyage on ne maitrise pas tout.

Bonjour Jean-Jacques,
Belle photo nocturne même si tu es arrivé un peu trop tard pour l'heure bleue. La gestion de la lumière est bonne et nous permet de découvrir de nombreux détails, surtout dans la partie centrale. Par contre, c'est un peu plus "soft" sur les bords, mais ça doit être parce que tu as utilisé une focale assez courte son ton zoom.

une bonne photo de nuit d'un batiment qui s'y prete bien mais je trouve que pour du 30" la disfraction de la lumiére sur les lampadaires n'est pas terrible, mais c'est pour chipoter mon ami car malgré tout elle bien réalisé

Most impressive feature in this facade of opera house, especially the windows and artwork. You shot with f/14 to give good sharp focus and starry effect of the lights to make it sparkle and looking more grand.

I wonder why the sky has no blue hour effect? Cloudy sky?

Bonjour Jean-Jacques;
il émerge de la nuit, avec ses couleurs de pierres chaudes.
Il est baigné de lumières artificielles qui le délimitent bien et l'éclairent correctement.
On voit quelques fantômes sur la photo, les phantômes de l'opéra ?
Très bon choix de POV pour englober l'édifice.

D'ores et déjà, un joyeux réveillon de noël, bien festif.

Très beau cliché nocturne scintillant de mille feux. Un petit penchant à droite, peut-être?
De toute façon une image festive pour la fin d'année.
