Photographer’s Note
A typical German department store, 3 levels. First floor mostly stationery, books, and craft supplies, second floor mostly clothes, third floor dvd's and electronics. Ignore the girl in the reflection; she's just some crazy girl who kept going up and down the escalator all afternoon with her camera balanced on the handrail. :)
This is the view coming down the escalator from the second floor to the first floor. Although in German I would say it was coming down from the first floor to the ground floor, because they number floors differently from the way Americans do.
I always wanted to photograph this view because the mirrors made an interesting effect, so finally one day I got up the courage. I felt like a total moron going up and down, up and down the escalator as I experimented with different shutter speeds and camera angles. And it didn't help that some guy liked my "Supergirl" t-shirt and started shouting at me while I was on the escalator. But in spite of the embarrassment, I managed to get a few shots. This was my favorite because I like the diagonal lines.
"Kasse" is the cash register. The store had a Kasse on every floor. I noticed that if I did not pay for a dvd on third floor (wanted to buy it together with some stationery from first floor), it set off an alarm on every escalator all the way down. The first time it happened, I was a bit worried that the German police would come tackle me. I went over to a cashier, but she just told me not to worry about it, and everyone just ignored the alarm. Later I got smart and started holding the dvd's up in the air above the sensor so I wouldn't annoy everyone by setting off the alarm. Don't worry, I always paid before I left. :)

Hi Erin,
A little bit crazy shot with all those lines and stairs. I think it could be better in B&W with stronger contrasts to empasize all those instalations inside the market.
Some parts here are too blurry. I wish Your focusing would concentrate on this girl or on this banner from the upper right side...
But I like it anyway,
regards to You,
maki

Hola Erin.
Very good picture with nice colors and composition, great reflection, you were able to capture this shot from a good POV, love the angles produced by the escaletor, despite that you took the shot moving all the time your sharpness is very good.
In America you are not allowed to take pictures inside the stores. Thank you for your funny but interesting note.
Cheers.

Hi Erin:
This picture is wonderfully composed. First, I like the lighting. And I also like the different levels of the picture. It looks very moving. Good work. Sothy

Very interesting composition with a mise en abyme to boot. The angle works really well to suggest the angle of the escalator. As someone else mentioned, tt's tough to photograph in department stores. Often they ask you not to take picutures. So, really good work. -Hugh

It's a photograph that can cause the feeling of oppresion usual in this markets full of thousands of goods, people, light and noise.
