Photographer’s Note
The Schloss Neue Kammern is the New Chambers of the Schloss Sanssouci in Potsdam. It was built in 1747 as an orangery. It is a Baroque building which served as guest accommodation for Frederick the Great, with magnificent rooms and halls – particularly the Jasper Hall in the centre, which is studded with precious stones. Visitors can see this original décor, which is in keeping with the other buildings on the site. The chambers replaced an orangery, which had been built at that site in 1745 on plans by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff and held the terraces' potted plants during the winter months. Ramps, on which the tubs were taken in and out, serve as reminders of the building's original use.
