Photographer’s Note

These are two landmarks of Berlin, the tower of the town hall, the Rotes Rathaus (red town hall) and the television tower.

The "Red Town Hall" got its name because of its facade design out of red clinkers. It is the seat of the Berlin senate and of the governing mayor. It is situated right in the middle of Berlin (see map view right hand). It was built from 1861 to 1869. Its tower has a height of 94 metres.

The television tower with a height of 368 - the highest building of Germany- was built from 1965 to 1969 by the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) administration who intended it as a symbol of Berlin, which it remains today. There is a visitor platform and a rotating restaurant in the middle of the sphere. The visitor platform is at a height of about 204 m above the ground and visibility can reach 42 km on a clear day. The restaurant, which rotates once every 30 minutes, is a few metres above the visitors platform.

De la couleur dans cette image bien équilibrée et dans laquelle tu ne nous montres que l'essentiel. D'ailleurs, ton titre et ta note l'expliquent bien.

Guten morgen lieber Frank,
Ein Bild der tausende von Erinnerungen in mir weckt.
Ein Bild voller Kontraste.
Ein Bild der einen nachdenken laestt; wozu, wieso und warum. Ich meine die ganze story ab dem Bau der Mauer biz zum Verfall.
Und ich erinnere mich an die 20 Ostmarks, die ich jedes mal an der Grenzuebergang S-Bahnhof Friedrichsstrasse gegen 20 Westmarks tauschen mmusste und am Ende des Tages nicht mehr wusste was mit den uebriggebliebenen Ostmarks zu tun.
Aus jener Zeit habe ich noch stapelweise 33 upm Schallplatten (Supraphon)mit klassischer Musik, die heute nur noch zu dekorativen Zwecken gut sind !
Siehe 'mal, ein Bild, eintausend Gedanken werden wach.
Auch eine der "guten" Seiten von TE; trotz alledem !

Good juxtaposition between these two landmarks, one ultramodern the other much more traditional in style. I like the rich red toned of the town hall which makea pleasing contrast with the pale blue sky. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from a drizzly Charente-Maritime.

You show here the two towers beside each other, with a totally other architecture,
Berlin is a very nice city, almost totally new after WORLD WAR II
You play very well with light and shadow.

Hallo,
wirklich ein interessanter Winkel, den ich so noch nicht gesehen habe. Der Kontrast der zwei unterschiedlichen Berliner Bauepochen kommt gut heraus...auf der einen Seite die Verspieltheit der wilhelminischen Architektur, auf der anderen Seite die kühlen, klaren Linien eines modernistischen DDR-Baus. Vielleicht hätte man hier mit Photoshop die einstürzenden Linien gerade ziehen können, aber besonders auffallen tun sie auch nicht.
