Photographer’s Note

The bridge Simone de Beauvoir (initially known as the provisional bridge Bercy-Tolbiac) is a bridge modes of transport such). It lies between Pont de Bercy and Tolbiac and connecting 12th and 13th arrondissements of Paris.

Made in the plant facilities Eiffel in Alsace, the lens main plant has been channeled through canals, the North Sea, English Channel and rivers (with the difficulties of locks too narrow). She crossed Paris on a barge on 30 November 2005 before reaching its final destination. It was hauled up and put in two hours on 29 January 2006, around three o'clock in the morning. Central element of the future bridge, the lens of steel weighs 650 tons and a length of 106 m for a width of 12 m.

Its five spans crossing the river without support in water and join ways on high bank (directly in front of the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand left bank, and directly in the Parc de Bercy right bank), with support on the double low banks (quai Francois Mauriac-left bank, quai de Bercy and right bank).

In March 2005, Bertrand Delanoë proposed to baptize "Simone de Beauvoir bridge and the bridge was inaugurated on 13 July 2006 in the presence of Sylvie Le Bon de Beauvoir.(Source Wikipédia)
