| I realize that this isn't a perfect picture of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel (which commemorates the restoration of the Bourbons after the defeat of Napoleon), but we were in a hurry to get to the Louvre, and at the same time we were being pursued by gypsies, so I was snapping my pictures very quickly. In fact, I really do have a more complete and unskewed photo of this monument, but I prefer this one. It gives the (untrue) impression that the Arc is on a rise, that there was hardly anyone else there, and of movement, much like the heave on a boat when the waves beneath it surge and fall. |
