[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French]
A night photograph from our trip in Vanoise National Park, last saturday. The night was perfectly clear and it was magical to contemplate all these stars and the Milky Way upon the highest summit of Vanoise : The North Face of Grande Casse (3855m).
For this shot I used the 50mm f1.8 lens @1.8 on the 5D at 1600iso and a 15sec exposure.

Wow, that's spectacular, setting the Milky Way against the magnificence of the mountains. Your perfect exposure shows both well. Nowadays it's so hard to get away from light pollution and particle pollution to see this sort of thing--high altitude is a requirement. Nice work. Regards, Ken.

Hi, Xavier -

A lovely image, and a very good choice to use vertical. And as Ken says, it's so hard these days to get away from all the light pollution! Good technical choices, too: Normally I would not use a high ISO for a long night exposure, but in this case you would have star trails. You even managed to get some color in the star clouds.

Regards,
Dan

J'adore !
Amicalement,
Olivier

Hi Xavier! An excellent job, impressive detail and resolution if the individual stars in the night sky, i can even see a streak in the middle left, maybe a falling star? TFS...Alex

Bonsoir Xavier,
Tu as su saisir cet instant avec perfection !!
Bravo !! Magnifique !!

Xavier
Fantastique!

Fantastic one, Xavier!
I am so surprised to see that there's no trace of grain
to be seen even though you exposed it for 15 seconds and
at ISO 1600!
Did you have to use noise reduction software in post-editing?
Cheers,
Robi

It is amazing how many stars can be recorded on a picture with only a 15 second exposure, if the sky is clean and dark.
A very special picture, and an excellent work
Regards Stefano
