[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have decided to post a serie of three views to remember one of the great moment of this 1992 Brest meeting: the launching of the official Brest tall ship, La Recouvrance. La Recouvrance is a replica of a small French Navy schooner of a type used around 1800 to carry messages to the ships at sea. The building of the replica started in 1991, but the ship was offcially put at sea in 1992 during the meeting, and completed in 1993. She is now navigating with passengers 2/3 of the year.
The launching was in fact done with a crane, rather than using the traditonanl (but more dangerous) method of a slide inot the sea. Afterwards, the ship came parading in the harbour to the acclaims of the people present (including myself), towed by a rowing boat.
Here, the ship (a green, black and white wooden hull, unrigged yet) in approaching into the Penfeld river. The current picture was taken from the Sorlandet, and the Belem is visible on the left of the image, with Le Renard on her side. You will see La Recouvrance better in the next two postings.
But I did not sail on the ship till 2001, so it will take some yime before I will post it. However, I have a few view at the end of my 2006 travelogue, at the end of the 2nd race of Tall Ships' Race 2006, when the ship was moored in the entrance of the Schelde river.

A little combination of notes found on the net(not much, since information in English is hard to find and I am a bit lazzy to make translations):
a Recouvrance is the replica of a message schoner, a Navy vessel from the turn of the last century (1800), originally used to carry important letters and urgent notices. Its assignments were then extended to the surveillance and protection of merchant shipping off the coasts of Africa and the West Indies. There were five vessels built to "IRIS" plan, designed by the French engineer Hubert, taking part in these assignments, each manned by a crew of 50 to 60 seamen.
The project to build Brest's schooner was launched for the national "Boats of the French Coast" contest in 1990. Volunteers and partners from public and private sectors joined forces in the Association GOELETTE LA RECOUVRANCE. The construction work began in 1991.
She was launched at the Brest 92 gathering.
Since she began sailing in 1993, La Recouvrance has called in many European countries. She takes individuals and groups of up to 12 aboard for cruises and groups of up to 25 for day-outings.

Rigging: "Aviso-goélette" (a top sail schooner)
Building start: 1990
Overal length : 25 m
Width: 6,40 m
Surface of sails: 430 m²
Crew: 5

Bonsoir Emmanuel,
The composition of this photo is really well balanced with the busy part of all the masts and ropes of the ship on the left hand side and space created on the right hand side with a wider view on the harbour. Good photo work!
Regards,
Lars

Hello Emmanuel,

I like the point of view, giving a different angle on the ships!
I notice the impressive warship to the left, and the persons in the rig giving the scale...
Well composed presentation with sharp fine details!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonjour Emmanuel
That's a jamboree of vertical lines on the left. A good POV which provides depth. Sharpness is impeccable, even though light is not the best. The tricolour certainly adds the dash of colour.
Best Regards
Angshu
