L'abbaye Notre-Dame de Fontaine-Guérard est située au bord de la rive droite de l'Andelle sur la commune de Radepont, à 12 kilomètres au nord-ouest d'Ecouis.
Elle tire son nom de l'emplacement où elle a été fondée, près d'une source abondante. A l'origine simple prieuré, l'abbaye de Fontaine-Guérard fut fondée en 1185 et rattachée à Cîteaux en 1218.
En suivant le chemin d'accès, vous apercevez tout d'abord la chapelle Saint-Michel, élevée au XVème siècle sur des caves voûtées. Puis vous voyez les vestiges qui subsistent de la vie des moniales au XIIIème siècle. Les murs latéraux de l'église abbatiale d'origine sont toujours debout. Le chevet plat est percé d'élégantes fenêtres et les voûtes de l'abside sont en partie intactes.
La salle capitulaire est un bel exemple d'architecture normande du début du XIIIème siècle. Ses trois nefs reposent sur une double rangée de colonnettes aux chapiteaux à crochets. Plus loin, une deuxième salle voûtée, sans doute la salle de travail des moniales, évoque celle des chevaliers de l'abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel. Un escalier conduit à l'étage du dortoir dont les étroites baies éclairaient chacune une cellule.
The abbey Our-injury of Fountain-Guérard is located at the edge of right bank of Andelle on the commune of Radepont, with 12 kilometers in the North-West of Ecouis.
It draws its name from the site where it was founded, close to an abundant source. With the origin simple priory, the abbey of Fountain-Guérard founded in 1185 and was attached to Cîteaux in 1218.
While following the access path, you first of all see the Michaelmas vault, high in XVème century on arched cellars. Then you see the vestiges which remain of the life of the moniales in XIIIème century. The side walls of the abbey church of origin are always upright. The flat bedside is bored elegant windows and the vaults of the apse are partly intact.
The chapter house is a beautiful example of architecture Norman of the beginning of XIIIème century. Its three naves rest on a double line of posts to the capitals with hooks. Further, a second arched room, undoubtedly the room of work of the moniales, evokes that of the knights of the abbey of the Mount-Saint-Michel. A staircase led on the floor of the dormitory of which the narrow bays lit each one a cell. |
