This is the castle of Castlenaud in the Dordogne valley. It has been fully restored and houses a medieval weapons museum. Across the river from it sits the rival castle of Beynac (pictured on my previous picture). All tourist parafenilia shows a view of both castles facing each other like old rivals. However I spent an hour walking around the castle and then behind it and couldnt find it, then just before driving off I tried the hill next to the parking lot and although this view was pretty good, I figured out by comparing this photo to the postcard view that I had to cross the river to another hill in order to get that famed view, anyway Ill try to find it next time I go there.

Hello Daniel,
the beautiful sky, beside the well managed lighting is what makes the difference here. The view of the village is stunning and really appealing and it looks like it belongs to a different era. Quality is excellent throughout, with great sharpness and colours.
Thanks for sharing it.
Regards,

Igor

Hi Daniel. Difficult to select the magic point when the whole scene looks magical. Wonderful play of light on the old walls and the sky gives the composition a dynamic look. Great stuff. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Daniel,

looking at this photo, it is the sky that surprises me : it's like in 3D ! It must be a phantastic castle.

Luc.

Hello, Daniel -

Fantastic light! It looks almost like a late medieval painting. Great use of diagonals, too.

Dan

Hi Daniel,

Impressive photo of this medieval castle. Excellent light and sharpness. Fantastic clouds! The castle seems very big comparing to the village. Nice shot!

Beautiful shot! The colour and contrast of this is top notch, making for a shot which is quite interesting and attractive. The contrast of colour between the warm stones of the town and the blue/grey of the sky is great too. I really like the sky in this, which looks very solid and tangible, providing a nice counter weight to the town. Well done!

Salut Daniel

Definitely my kind of photo, this photo puts Castelnaud on my (somewhat) long of places to see soon. And what a light. THe sky seems super sharp and in a few spots pixellated, though parts below are fine. If I had to be extra picky, the contrast probably didn't need to be that high.

Hello Daniel, Amazing colors and light, very nice composition and pov, excellent sharpness and depth of field, superb contrast, nice textures and details in the walls, well done.
Angela

Salut Daniel,

Vraiment superbe!

André

Hi Daniel,
The warm light is simply beautiful here and illuminates the castle and the village below perfectly. Another great element are the clouds which form a super background and with their almost diagonal lines drawing our eye to the castle. all in all a wonderful clear scene taken from a great point of view.
Regards
Wanda

Daniel

Hey Daniel, this is quite beautiful, I envy you having this scene to capture. I like the way the the castle and town is sitting in a pool of light; with that dark area at the bottom of the frame. Love the random jumble of roofs.
Craig

The picture looks a bit oversharpened (in the sky at least) but the view is gorgeous with excellent light contrasts between the buildings and the valley...

Cheers
Alexander

Fantastic light, fantastic sky. A great catch of this beautiful castle and village.

Hola Daniel

excellent
didier

I think i managed to make such a vision in Schloss Hochensalzburg, but i am afraid to share it. Because i set the exposure due to the sunlight on the castle, and all the other parts are dark.
Of course this vision is much better than mine (and worth selling, ha!) because the details are much more crowded and the POV is much better. I love the medieval feeling in it. And oh yes, i love its darkeness.
Cheers,
Deniz

Daniel, the lighting you have captured here is magnificant. The composition is excellent as is the color and detail but your choice of times to get this light is awesome.

Greg

Hola Daniel
