Photographer’s Note

As from today, I will have a full house, it's time for me to wish you all TE members all the best for Christmas! May you forget all your worries, at least for this period of Peace, and may you spend a really happy Christmas period!
The photo, my favourite subject for this time of year, was taken last year at Landevennec Abbey. I liked the original modern simple style sculpted by one of the monks.
Landevennec Abbey was founded by St Guénolé, who came from Wales in the 5th century. He was a friend of St Corentin and king Gradlon ( see WS 2 of my posting 73 )and is probably the favourite breton saint.
The Abbey was destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries, until it disappeared in 1793 at the time of the French Revolution.
Then, a new Abbey was built and consecrated in 1958. Nowadays, about 20 monks live there according to St Benedict's rule. They work the land, make and sell craftwork, and welcome people who want to retire and meditate for a few days , living the simple monastic life . No need to be religious to wish to do that, especially if you have been to the place, which is a real paradise.
