Photographer’s Note

Située place des Terreaux, au coeur de Lyon, cette fontaine ornée d'un lion est l'oeuvre, à l'instar de mon dernier post, du sculpteur alsacien Bartholdi.
Conçue initialement pour la ville de Bordeaux, elle représentait alors la Garonne se jetant dans l'océan, et ses quatre affluents. Revendue à la ville de Lyon, elle devient allégorie de la Saône, et le Lion de ma photo y fut alors ajouté.

Located on Terreaux square, in Lyon's heart, this fountain is, like my last post, a masterpiece from alsatian sculptor Bartholdi.
Conceived initially for Bordeaux city, it represented the Garonne river throwing itself into ocean, and its four affluents. Resold to Lyon, it becomes an allegory of the Saone river, and Lyon of the picture was then added to it.

The sky is exposed so nicely against the sculptures facade. The colors are strong and rich, and the interesting clouds continue to add to the photo,

Hi JB,
Excellent pov, and what strikes me most are those waves of clouds that are floating in to the image, gives the whole photo a very dynamic look and depth. Colour handling is good, nice tones on the lions face and enough blue in the sky.

Wonderful composition you got here and the clouds are just amazing! The horses in the background, the yellow tones. Very nice. I would perhaps have warped the buildings to the right out of it... Still a nice picture!

Bonne qualité pour ta photo, la lumière, l'ffet des nuages donnent un bon résultat même si le regard du lion se heurte au bord de la photo à droite, un peu plus d'espace ne serait pas inintéressant ... à Bordeaux il y a quand même quelques chevaux pour la fontaine du monument des Girondins.

Très belle réalisation, sans doûte pas très facile à cadrer. Bartholdi est le spécialiste des lions, il a aussi représenté Denfet Rochereau, originaire de Saint-Maixent l'Ecole en Deux-Sèvres, par un lion à Belfort. Bravo.

Bonjour JB -

I like the details found in the Lyon Lion from the exfoliation of the sculpture to the details of the artist. The warm WB and sunlight gives this lion a softer gentler feel than the menacing beast that it is. The clouds moving into the scene add a bit of dimension and interest. The POV and the choice of a super wide further enhances the image. Well done.

Elle est jolie celle-ci ! Tres bien structurée mettant bien en valeur le grand angle et comme toujours une merveilleuse netteté... Vous ne le signalez pas mais ne serait-ce pas là un HDR ?

J'aime beaucoup les photos de statues et notamment quand on peut isoler un élément et lui donner du sens. Donc je ne peux qu'aimer celle-ci, qui est très bien servie par une excellente réalisation!!

Cette tête de lion en contre-plongée prend une dimension impressionnante dans cette photo.

I love Lions. I have two small lion sculptures in my patio and two near the fireplace. My wife hates them and I love them. This is a great photo of Bartholdi's fantastic sculpture. You also did a masterful job of using the ultra-wide angle zoom lens to your advantage. Your perspective is fantastic! I love this photo!

Interessante aussi l'histoire de ce lion revendu a Lyon!

Wow, c'est tout simplement top !! Ce pov si proche, cette lumière, ces textures... C'est canon : beaucoup d'energie, de caractère et de chien (sans jeu de mot !). Allez, je regrette un peu ce petit morceau de toit à droite, mais c'est histoire d'être perfectionniste.

Présenté de la sorte, il nous fait presque peur ce Lion qui semble vouloir sortir de mon écran...
Une lumière superbe qui offre uen bonne visibilité sur la texture de la statue.

Extra ce POV bas et l'utilisation du grand angle qui donne une perspective tout à fait étonnante sur ce lion. L'utilisation du polarisant a accentué les contrastes et fait ressortir les détails de cette sculpture. Superbe couleurs!

what a wnderful approach on this statue revealling such wonderful details and textures. The light reflecting on the head of the lion and the contrasts between it and the skt are fabulous. The partial view of Lyon's buildings are nice as part of the background.

Great wide-angle technique in this one JB, getting close to the lion and isolating it against the sky has worked very well. The golden hue of the stonework also makes a great contrast with the bluen of the sky.
Shifting the framing to the left slightly to remove the slice of building on the right of the frame and giving slightly more space to the left of the fountain would have improved it further, but other than that this is very well taken.

Tres bon POV, magnifique usage du grand angle. Le polariseur etait parfait pour cette prise, les couleurs sont chaudes et belles. Merite largement les 2 points supplementaires pour passer a 3 digits :)

Very strong picture, is a pic with character, I like the angles is original, and the contrast with the sky.
