The Sacre-Coeur Basilica is located at the summit of the Montmartre butte, the highest point in the city. The construction started in 1875 and was concluded in 1914.
The idea to construct a dedicated temple to the Sacred Heart appeared after the Franco-Prussiana war (1870). The style is marked by influences Romans and bizantinas. In the façade, the porch with three archs, is decorated by two statues of Saint Joana D'Arc and King Saint Louis IX. The bell of nineteen tons is one of the most weighed of the world.
The top of the dome is open to tourists and affords a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Paris. |

vue classique de cette basilique, mais fort bien prise. La qualité somme toute perfectible du scan donne à cette photo un petit côté "vintage" pas désagréable du tout! :)
