Photographer's Note

We who live in the heart of the European Union are already forgetting what it was like when there were border posts and customs checks every time you wanted to enter a neighbouring country. These days we just drive through as the Americans do from one state to the next.
This is a shot of a concrete block used as counter weight for the kind of barrier they lowered to make cars stop at border control points. And when you entered France, they of course looked like this. But this was not a border point, but a small campsite in the mountains. Maybe they inherited it from a former border post. Or they just like painting them in those three colours because it looks nice.
