Lille: Rambla de Shanghai II Photo

Photographer’s Note

This shot is taken on the corner of the Rue Fadherbe and the Opera square in the centre of Lille.
The transformation of this French 19th Century boulevard in the Rambla de Shanghai for the Eurepean Cultural Capital 04 cannot be missed because of thinhs like the bright and big neons of Nankin
and the numerous multicoloured electric trees. I posted here a far less obvious item: just a red lantern swinging gently in the wind. I liked the contrast between the two lanterns and find it always interesting to see how facades are embellished with things like big lettering, security cameras, etc – they are the outer layer of the urban texture. In the bottom of the pic the roof of the Opera house is displayed.

PS-E2 tech: skewed, cropped, levels adjusted, saturation (master, yelloes and blues) boosted and hues adjusted, sharpened (the whole and selected parts with the brush), fill flashed small parts of the picture and saved for the web

Het rood steekt mooi af ten opzichte van de blauwe hemel Bert, de gele letters maken het een mooi geheel. Bedankt.

Again a very colorful capture from the "temporarily Chinese" part of Lille. The upward-looking angle works really well here, and I like how you got the blue sky as background for the street lantern, and the cloud as background for the red lantern. The sun sparkle on the letters on the facade is a fine detail, too. Very well captured, Bert, with a lot of engaging detail to be found.

Hi Bert, Good angle, I like it very much! Makes me wonder what is to be seen around the corner. I like the curve in the building and the sun reflecting in the metal thing. The colors are nice and strong, as usual. Very good composition!

Very bright and sharp. The colors are great. An interesting mix between the vivid color of the decoration and the more subdued building. And it' set against a great sky. Very nice.

Un superbe panache de couleurs sur l'image qui est presentée d'une jolie maniere avec cette verticale trés bien vu pour ce type de sujet.

Of passage to Lille also the 5 or the 6 but under the clouds is not the same thing, do not have to like too much, beautiful framing and angle chooses is very interesting, the colors are good with also a pretty contrast with the sky. well considering.

That's a simple compo, but it works very well and I like the light lamp dancing in the wind...
