After all this (post)modern architecture the impression might arise that Lille is all about modernism. In the next couple of pictures I will show you other sides of this town. This pic is of the oldest, medieval part. The basis was laid down in the 13th Century when it was Flemish. The street is close to the oldest street, the Rue de Péterinck. These houses originate from the 16th Century. Vieille Lille has lots of charming shops, restaurants and galleries. The proprietors are proud of their part of town. They say “vieux, c’est mieux” (old is better). Alas some modern street culture creeped in via graffiti…

PS-E2 tech: cloned out two aerials, skewed, cropped, levels adjusted, saturation (master, greens and reds) boosted, sharpened (the whole and selected parts with the brush), gradient fill layer added to brighten up the grey sky and saved for the web.

J'aime beaucoup cette prise de vue. Belle composition, très belles couleurs douces et naturelles.
Very well done Bert.

Beautiful textures and colors. The street is very nicely captured. Its narrowness really comes out. A stark difference from the new Lille. Not only in architecture and scale but that you got this shot with no one in it like they've all migrated to the flashy new parts. There's a bit of purple fringing on the light pole. But it's not bad. I also like the graffiti here. It really looks worn yet maintained. Nicely done.

Very nicely captured street and with the full height of the first facade at the right which is very good. That emphasis better the red briks and the whole mood. The mix of these briks with the other colours is surprising. Soft cold colours with harsh red briks, opposed textures, opposed tones. The wall you have included at the left is very well seen. It gives a clear reference of the narrowness of that street which is great. That's very well and also very nicely catched Bert. I also have to say that your clean and precise PP (sharpness, sky,..) works great once again. A very good job Bert.

A beautiful view of the old part of town, Bert, and indeed architecture-wise quite a contrast to your previous pic. Pretty old houses along this cobblestone road, with the brickwork detail and distinctive windows. The house corner and lantern on the left are essential for your shot which I think wouldn't be as good without them. Well done.

Very nice decision for angle of taking for these buildings, staying so close to each other, Bert! The atmosphere there really brings the feeling of time some centuries ago and the fine combination of colours is increasing it. All details work perfectly together and the lantern is so charming. Very well seen and captured! :-)

Mooie Bert,

Nice angle of taking picture!
