Photographer’s Note

The wooden 'shell' on the left is the outside of the plenary room, the big Strasbourg-located political arena of the European Parliament. As I noted in another picture, the plenary room is the largest single room in Europe, and I think this picture sort of gives you an idea of how big the room is. You can see the room is really huge, this is taken from (almost) the top floor outside the plenary room but the ‘arena’ itself continues beneath the floor you see here.

Before posting this I wanted to crop the ceiling/floors in the top (right), but at the last moment I decided not to remove it because it gives one a better perspective and it shows the height and immense size of this building.
Please tell me if you think I made a right choice, or would you have done this differently?

The flower-shaped black boxes on the floor are a sort of private coffee tables where the employees can have a chat, some small talk or discuss some serious business in a rather 'informal' way. Though they don't look too comfortable, they are a guarantee for privacy and a great protection to eavesdroppers – the high surroundings of these tables easily reach 2 floors high.

They day we had our tour around the EP-building is also the day Germany took over EP governing for 6 months. Angela Merkel held her speech that morning in this plenay room and all day there were cameras from all over Europe everywhere.

You can also see this shell in the EP Dome and The Shield pictures by TE-member PTAH.
