Near Bedoin, Provence, France

My wife and I were on a day trip to Carpentras and decided to see what the terrain was really like on Mont Ventoux (The Giant of Provence). For years we have watched the Tour de France and marveled at the mountain. Approaching the mountain from the south we passed through a small village, Bedoin, and made a wrong turn. Prior to making a u-turn we had to stop for a large group of cyclists beginning the climb of Mont Ventoux. After the turn I spotted this vineyard with poppies off to the right.

I posted this image in 2003 but I was never really satisfied with the results. I have reprocessed this through PhotoShop CS3 Beta with what I think are much better results. Here is the previous image. What do you think?

Very nice, very sharp, with great depth. The lines in the fileds provides great perspective. Colours are beautiful. A charmin shot. Congratulations!
Yes the PP results are better, much more crisp.

Hi John, this is a very beautiful rural scene. You captured it very well. Very peaceful and relax. I like the red flower there. What a beautiful place. Sothy

John,

Beautiful image.

I love the depth and the detail .. the buildings give such a wonderful sense of place .. and of a timeless feel .. the cultivated rows are wonderful .. the colors are just beautiful .. the flowers are so wonderful with all those greens ...

great image.

take care,

John

Nice tones and good composition for this beautiful photo.
Best regards
JJ

This version is definitely sharper, but without a compare feature like with WSs it's difficult to detect the other differences. I really like it though and enjoy all the red poppies in the field.

Harika! (Turkish wonderful)

Hi John, very interesting to repost this one after collecting some additional experience in PP. THe previous post really lacks of brightness and is also a little bit to soft. This one now has this falws corrected. I have the impression that you might have overdone the sharpness. There are some artifacts mainly on the roofs and the mountains in the bg. The composition and colors are beautiful.
Regards, Peter

Bonjour John,

Hi John,

The Mont Ventoux always spectacular, but very famous by the cyclist in the "Tour de France"
I find the foreground very lovely with the flowers, too the rows of the vineyard gives a excellent depth, very well composition too! TFS.

Greetings,
John.

Hi John,
A very good composition. In digital especially, I find that given the limitations of this site as to quality, landscapes involving grasses and trees and fields are particularly difficult to render to a visually pleasing good quality. This shot meets the test, with the poppies in the field really enhancing, while the post helps balance and anchor the shot. The buildings are well seen, the sky is textured and alluring, and the photo generally a little better in result than the previous image. Very fine work, John.

Hi John,
Had a look at the two and enjoyed comparing them as they are both good.I think I like this one better as it has more clarity, better light and lovely colours.I may have taken a step to the right to get in the line of vines but thats just a matter of taste.A lovely cut and composition and I like your choice of frame.Great stuff....take care.

Very nice scene, very typical Provence! Traditional tile roofs, poppies in the fields--it takes me back to my visit there, wish I could go again!

I think you improved the color over the last version, John, which had a reddish cast. It also seems sharper.

Regards, Ken.

Hi John.
Well, that's not so far from home (150-200Km), so I won't say I don't like the picture!
;o)
in fact I really like it because of its bucolic aspect, and the very quiet atmosphere that characterizes it. The combination between the poppy field and vineyards makes it very "provençal". It's a nice area, indeed.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.
LB.

Hi John:

The repost is much better. I agree with Ken that there was a slight reddish cast. I think the colors in this one seem much more real--in fact, the overall image seems much truer to what it would look like. I love the perspective looking down the fence line. Thanks for sharing.

Bonsoir John,
This picture smells like Provence !
A nice one, with beautiful foreground flowers.

JB.

Hello John,
You have a marvelous image here of this famous region in France. A masterpiece!

Hi John
Very pretty scenery with the mixture of vines and poppies contrasting well against the dark sky. It's good you reposted as the colours look more natural, the sky more dramatic and it's a lot sharper.
Regards
Nikki
