Agriculture in Corsica represents 10, 7 %de emploi régional (national average: 6, 8%) and 2, 7 % of the regional PIB (national average: 3, 2%). The fertility of the grounds is overall average there, which partly explains a gross income by exploitation inferior of 35 % the national average. The littoral plains are intended for the commercial cultures. The orchards agrums, whose clementine constitutes the principal production, occupy a total surface of 2 300 ha and profit from the agronomic research undertaken in particular by two scientific stations established in the Eastern plain: that of San Giuliano is specialized in agrumiculture, while that of Migliacciaru makes carry its studies on ensemble of the orchards.
