Photographer’s Note

On the flat, sandy beach at Wissant, the strange sight of a tractor driving out of the sea, dripping wet, may be seen. This is how the fishermen retrieve their boats along the coast (in the old days, they used horses).

This is a closer view of the "flobart" (small boat) shown in my post of Wissant yesterday. The fishermen tow their boat from the beach to the street, usually via the tractor that has pulled them out of the sea, and sell their catch to the local residents or tourists. It's also a good opportunity to check the nets and the equipment before setting off again (see Workshop).

Wissant is pretty windy - it is one of the most famous windsurfing spots in Europe - and our trip on Thursday, along with the incessant rain, confirmed it!

great pic Vicky of daily life in france ,beautiful colours,and very nice and sharp .This is how the local fishermen near me still sell their fish.

I quite like this picture, it is so typical of everyday life in a small fishing harbour. The fishing boat, the fishermen in their yellow gear, the small cafe/hotel where they will go after work is done to share an "apéro". Good idea to include the "no parking" sign on the right.
I'm a bit bothered by the cropped roof at the top. Maybe you could try a tighter framing by cropping even more and getting rid of the roof altogether. It would also crop out the boat's radar but I guess it doesn't matter the much. The scene would be then more focused on the fishermen. Just a suggestion.

PS: I came and look at your picture after I read your reply in the "want your critics!" forum thread. Your reply was full of common sense and I wanted to see if your picture were as interesting as you seem. I'm not disappointed! Keep up the good work and I'm glad you are having a good time in TE.
