Photographer’s Note

A shot I made in Paris, close to the Arche de la Defense. This sculpture of César is called "Le Pouce" - in English: the Thumb (thank you Fred for the information). It really seems a natural thumb with all the skin texture. I took this picture almost 10 years ago. I think, nowadays, I would have chosen a different point of view so as to show both the thumb and the building (not the sculpture covering part of it). I would also have included some sky above the building. However, I still like it.

Hi Yvonne,
I like the way you've aligned the Thumb with the building in the back. However, I think this photo could be a bit more "punchy" so I did a WS. Hope you like it.

I work in this tower, funny !
For the compo, the idea is good to put the thumb in parallel with the tower.
Pity you cut the top of the tower but I like the photo.

This is a subject that just begs to be photographed. I know it is difficult with the height of the buildings in the Defense area but the bit of the building missing is a little distracting but on the other hand go in close up to the thumb and you lose the impact of the building.

actually i like the way you have kept the sculpture in front of the building. it stands out and slowly lets our eyes roam about. very good quality in color and detail considering it is a scanned shot.

Odio cuando visito alguna ciudad, veo fotos de otras personas que fueron a los mismos lugares y yo no vi algo... cuando estuve en Paris, estuve en la Defense, y nunca vi esta estatua! Gracias por haber pasado cerca y compsrtir la experiencia con el resto de nosotros.
