Photographer’s Note
The Pont St-Bénezet (often known simply as the Pont d'Avignon) is the remains of a famous bridge in Avignon. Originally the bridge spanned the Rhône. It was frequently damaged by floods and eventually abandoned in 1668 after a particularly severe flood.
The bridge is often photographed from Ile de Barthelasse part way across the river however on this occasion I photographed from the main road underneath. I personally found the view of the bridge itself better from the other side of the bridge (looking at it into the photo) but preferred the light in the sky looking from this side and the way it balanced with the traffic trails.
