Carcassonne in the last light of day Photo

Photographer’s Note

This photo of the restored medieval city of Carcassonne was taken from the same view point as my other photo posted here. It was taken maybe an hour or less earlier than the twilight version with the last rays of sunshine behind me.

I like the bands of colour in the vineyard in the foreground and how these stack up parallel to the city itself.

Carcassonne is most famous as the stronghold of the the Cathar religion, falling in 1209 to a crusader army led by Simon de Montfort.

The city eventually fell into disrepair until restoration work commenced in 1853 under the architect Eugene Viollet-le-duc.

The restored city is now included in UNESCO's list of world heritage sites.

Hi Andrew,
Welcome to Trek Earth. Beautiful view of the medieval city of Carcassonne. I like the different tones of green. Good compo with the City in the very upper part of the picture, that shows us the position of the old town. Colours are great but it lacks a little more light.

Beautiful and fascinating view of the city, Andrew, excellent colors and great country atmosphere, I like the smoke near the castle, compliments, beautiful image and also you have a little but interesting portfolio, see you again.

Beautiful. I would just a little raise the view - to have abit more sky and less ground. But is't very nice also this way :-)

hi andrew!
a great shot of a fantastic place (shame on me i never visted it..)
you managed to avoid all the modern buildings and your point of vue was probably quite the same a couple of centuries ago !

I like this photograph very much. Good composition, great colors. and very intersting target. I think it should be TE main goal to delivery such a great pohotgraphs. I appreciate yout work very much here.
