[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Photograph of a painter at the Place du Tertre in Montmartre. This little square is literally packed with artists, some with a more commercial attitude than others. This man was one of those painters that didn't mind the tourists very much, and just did what painters do: bringing a little colour into life.

This was originally a digital colour photograph; I copied the colour version to the clipboard, then converted the original to black and white. Then, I added a layer and pasted the coloured version over the black and white version. Then I did the following: Layer -> Layer Mask -> Reveal All (this to add a layer mask to the color image). After that, I removed the colour again with the brush tool, leaving only the paintings highlighted.

(special thanks to my girlfriend for patiently removing the details of the colours)

Any comments are appreciated.

Hello Gerd, very interesting effect here and like how it highlights the key elements of this shot - the paintings. The man sitting in the background is kind of distracting, as he is situated right between the painter's face and the wall of paintings.

Hallo Gerd,
Groeten,
John.

Interesting work in this shot. I like your idea of keeping the colurs on the paintings and giving black and white tones to the rest of the image. It enhances it a lot.
Good composition.
Well done!

This is a fun idea, and I feel that it's well executed. I do agree about the man's face, but you can perhaps just add a bit of blur there to lessen its impact. Nice work, though.

Hello Gerd, très bon résultat pour une idée plus qu’originale ajoutant un plus à cette photo, bien amicalement

I love these desaturation experiments. It works really well here.
My favourite part of the pic is the BW right up corner, with the "Chez Eugene" and the BW lamps, people, trees; I find it very... romantic.
