Outside of Cereste, Provence on the N-100. Rows of Plane Trees were lining the highway in the morning light as my wife and I drove east to Digne les Bains. Outside of Cereste we finally found a place to pull off the road to photograph these wonderfull archways of trees. As we watched the traffic and moved on and off the highway to capture the images many of the drivers gave us friendly honks and thumbs up.

I read somewhere that the trees were planted throughout the country by Nepoleon and his army so that the French soldiers could march in the shade. (We also drove through some really nice rows of trees heading into Saint-Remy-de-Provence from the east but the highway was way too congested to stop and take photographs.) The trees are a derivation of the sycamore.

I wonder what this scene looks like in the fall.

Serwus John !
Excellent perspective. I love this tight view framed by trees. According to Your note about Napoleon (that I also heard once), the Image gets special meaning.
Very fine digression.

I really aprecciate Your Works, Your extraordinary photo-skills and - suppose - similar sensibility.
That is why I already added You, John, to my favorite Authors.
Keep going, I will follow :)
All the best,
Mat

Hi John
Very interesting POV ... I am not really happy with the contrasting light .. but that is what makes this photo so very special (I think) ... you have managed to capture the scene so very well ... well it must have been quite a drive for sure
thanks for posting ... cheers
Sarju
PS: I am really confused about why I like this photo ... but i do like it a lot honestly ... thanks

I adore the Provence, memory these tree-lined avenues, thanks to have photographed them.
Regards
Vinicio

I love to drive in such place. I'm waiting to take such picture in one specific road in Detroit during the fall colors. See my Grant teton picture as well

Hi, I also was in that zone few years ago and I found many streets around St. Remy de Provence with trees on sides. It's really nice to drive under this "cover" and Provence offers many photo occasion around it.
Thanks for the shot, John.

I am reminded of that poem written by Robert Frost...Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening..The woods are lovely dark and deep and i have promises to keep and miles to go before i sleep and miles to go before i sleep...

Hi John;

A pleasant looking tree lined road. I'd be really curious to see how great this road would be in the fog or other low light situations.

Nice shot,
- Dan
