Photographer’s Note
Just got back from a short trip to Paris, with no great shots, but there's something I like about this messy grainy shot of a cafe. Seems very Parisienne.

evening richard, you're absolutely right about the charm of this image, but you know what? - the dress you captured makes it an old-looking scene; and this is why i like this pic - it looks very modern; i run a sepia ws but i have met the daily limit today so tomorow i'll post my (even older) version of this interesting shot;
bw, jerzy
ps. good to see you back

Hi Richard
Typical french with the red wine and the "petit noir"
A good idea for a well done shot.

Hi Richard
A good daily life shot, & the grain actually adds some mood, & suits perfectly here. Well done!

You're coming at us from different directions, Richard, and we thought we knew you so well! Yes, there is something quintessentially Parisian about this shot and I have spent (or misspent) so many nights sitting at tables not dissimilar to this. Regards, Kevin

Lovely Richard, nice grains, very well saturated colours. Both fit the image and the setup very well. The mood is rendered excellent, at least that's how I feel it. It's nice, because there are a couple of different drinks, I am wondering at what time this picture is taken, late afternoon, I guess. Very nice atmosphere.
BTW, do you ever get to Delft Technical University? Please, let me know if you do, I would like to meet you.
(I got a nice one for the Monty Ptyhon theme from Brazil;-))

I understand what you mean about something nice in this one. I think it’s because a somewhat retro atmosphere. It looks an image from the 60’s not only by the glasses, pots, etc., but also by the pattern in the woman shirt. Also the strange colors add to this feeling.
I find the noise interesting although a bit too much. Maybe using a noise removal tool and setting it to a low correction could be nice to remove the excessive noise. Great placement of the wine glass. It balances the whole composition.

Hello, I really like what you qualify as "messy" in this shot. The grain is artistic here, there is some color noise that coud be removed. I played with it, and then I discovered the artistic "grain photo" filter in photoshop (I never used artistic filters !) and gave it a try.
I don't pretend it is better than the original, and my screen here is very bad, so I am not sure of the result. But it could be an idea.
