Photographer’s Note

And here the photograph which turns the back on that of yesterday.

The Pantheon overhangs theSainte-Geneviève mountain, in the heart of the fifth district of Paris. This "mountain" holds its name of the legendary heroin which saved Paris of the cruel invasions of the Barbarians in the 5th century, and which was buried there into 512.

Its tomb became immediately the object of a pilgrimage, and the maintenance of the relics of the holy owner of Paris was entrusted soon to a chapter of regular canons, the génovéfians.

An abbey will be built in 508, under the reign of Clovis, will be intended to shelter its burial and that of his wife Clotilde, who will contain the skin of the holy one, before receiving that of Clovis himself.

First of all dedicated to Saint Pierre and Saint Paul, this abbey will take finally the name of holy Genevieve in 12th century.

The history of the Pantheon approaches that of the Madeleine. Both were ordered by Louis XV.
