Photographer's Note

Viaur viaduct is a railway line art book Castelnaudary to Rodez. Completed in 1902, he crossed the deep valley of Viaur between Rodez and Albi. It is located in the municipalities of Tauriac-de-Naucelle (Aveyron) and Tanus (Tarn). This bridge is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since December 28, 1984. Following an open in 1887 (to engineers who included Gustave Eiffel) contest, he was assigned to the engineer Paul Bodin Construction Corporation des Batignolles (now Spie Batignolles), and built by the one between 1895 and 1902. The bridge was inaugurated October 5, 1903. This steel bridge, assembled by rivets, consists of two cantilever beams balanced cantilever (cantilever) and articulated, each extended by a short beam of constant section and two abutment masonry arches. This is the only bridge of its kind in France. Originally the central point of the bridge was not welded, the main arch is divided into two independent parts, each capable of supporting considerable weight. Both sides were sealed for maintenance reasons shortly after the construction of the viaduct. Through technical cantilever, railway viaducts have brought considerable reach, hitherto reserved for suspension bridges, so unsuited to the track. The climax will be the second Quebec Bridge (1917). Viaur viaduct is recognizable by its silhouette where the railway passes at the top and not in the middle of the structure, as is the case for the other girder bridges cantilevered overhang.
During construction no death was reported.
