Photographer's Note

Mirepoix is a town and commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. It lies in the Hers valley between Carcassonne and Pamiers.

Its inhabitants, who are called Mirapiciens, numbered 3123 in 2008.

The centre of Mirepoix is built around the place de Couverts, a pleasant place to wander on a sunny afternoon and stop for a quiet drink. It has a number of interesting old buildings to attract the attention of the photographer. One of the main attractions is the 14th century Maison des Consuls. The overhanging arcades of this building have exposed beams and on these there are approximately 150 individually carved wooden heads in various states of preservation.

Just off the centre is located the cathedral of St-Maurice, built in the Gothic style, and notable for its particularly wide nave.
