Photographer's Note

Collonges-la-Rouge, district of Corrèze.

Nicknamed "the city to the twenty-five towers," the village was the first to get the label "most beautiful villages of France" in 1942. The association of the most beautiful villages in France, is still headquartered in Collonges. Today, it encompasses 156 municipalities.

The village has a fine collection of mansions adorned with turrets and mullioned windows. It owes its name to the color of the stones used for the construction of buildings, a red sandstone exposed along a fault. Today, some quarries are operated between the towns of Meyssac and Noailhac.
