Photographer's Note

Although the Cité de Carcassonne (which was thoroughly restored - some would say reinvented - in 1853 by the theorist and architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc) is very photogenic in a touristy, faintly Disneyish sort of way, I've chosen to present a different theme. This is a roundabout or carousel just outside the Porte Narbonnaise at night. In case the moderators are tempted to take this image down on the grounds of excessive PP work, let me assure them that, apart from a little sharpening of the scanned negative using Nik's Sharpener Pro 3, no Photoshop editing has been done on this photograph. The effect was achieved in-camera, using a tripod, and zooming the lens during a longish exposure, while the carousel was going round. The individual points of light have not burned out as I used a small aperture (which also helped to lengthen the shutter speed), which was, from memory, around 4 or 5 seconds.
