Photographer's Note

One of the streets of Vezelay (northern Burgundy, Yonne departement)that leads to the Abbey.
The city if famous for the Abbey (now known as Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine) a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery with its complicated program of imagery in sculpted capitals and portals, is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture, though much of its exterior sculpture was defaced during the French Revolution.
