It was a race against time to get this shot. I had just rounded a corner onto this street when I saw a couple making their way home for the evening…or maybe they were headed out to the clubs, who knows?? :) I couldn’t get my camera out of the bag fast enough, even though they weren’t moving quickly, the moment was fading in a hurry.
The late afternoon sun wasn’t providing much light in the narrow alley’s, so I had to boost the ISO some in order to get at least a high enough shutter speed for a longer focal range. Can’t say that I wanted to run up behind them for a steadier picture, the spontaneous moment would have been lost and I would have walked away as another annoying tourist receiving a verbal scolding!
Thanks for taking a look!

A split-sec. decision and you got a marvelous photo, Jason.
The place looks just similar to my Bergamo street picture: old town, ancient windows-shutters and the hanged lamp-post.
Good clear image, DOF and colors are well collected, and most importent the dynamic scale by the old-couple walk along.

J'aime beaucoup cette composition. C'est un moment qu'il ne fallait pas laisser passer. Une photo qui raconte une histoire avec un arrière plan de toute beauté.

The visual impact hit me already when looking at the thumbnail.
Beautiful and characteristic architecture with facades in different colours.
Wonderful patterns of the vertical lines.
The couple enlivens the street scene.
I like the fact that you chose for the horizontal format and left out the sky.
Best regards, Paul

this is awesome! Not only because the scene shows so lovely architecture, but also because you´ve managed to capture perfectly the "Mediterranean" feeling. The older couple strolling relaxed this narrow street convey the feeling well. What I like more about the image is the way you framed and zoomed it.I can only agree with Paul and say good you left out the horizon line with the sky.It makes the perception of the scene even more expressive.
Another masterpiece Jason!
Have a good day

Nice photo. Pleasant south-European atmosphere. Well framed and composed (I like details like the arch above the woman) and beautiful assemblage of colours. Careful presentation.

Really nicely done shot, Jason - good split second decisionmaking, and you got at once a colorful, well composed, and meaningful shot out of it. The closeness of the alley, the lack of a visible sky, and the perspective all create a good mood around the couple, while the balancing bikes on either side and the lamps above play well with the symmetry. And then of course you have the subjects, unaware of your presence in a nice everyday moment. Really lovely shot.

una bella scena ripresa in un bel luogo, lo sfondo è bello e colorato, pieno di particolari come le lampade e la coppia sembra muoversi a proprio agio.

Jason, I know the feeling. I captured this shot under the same rushed circumstances. Yours turned out really nicely - it's a great exposure, with good light, and the colors add a lot of interest. I would have loved to see this in a vertical frame as well.

Spectacular old street. So many shapes and contrasts...the presence of those two old people brings the needed dynamic in the scene. Good work!

For me Menton has got very close relation with St. Bernard, one of the famous persons of this city. This is very typical narrow street for the South European cities. Lovely details, nice soft colours.

Certainly, this does not look like a rush job, in fact quite the opposite. The composition is spot on with the couple on the nines, and the light is handled really well to show off the variety of soft pastel colours in the buildings. I know that feeling of almost panic as you see a nice shot walking away and scrambling for the camera, you did great here. Very relaxing scene with great colour and light, well done!

The couple doesn't look like the clubbing kind to me. But you are right, they make for a wonderful and very charming subject in this beautiful street.
The light is very pleasant and the whole scene doesn't look at all like a rushed job.
have a good weekend

oh, this is so charming, jason ~ well seen , well scene :)
i love how the colorful, slender buildings seem to lean in toward the couple, as if they are eavesdropping. or perhaps they are embracing and protecting this couple who, after all these years together, still walk arm in arm :)
i want to be part of a couple like that when i am older.
or now would be okay, too ;)
so lovely, thank you ~
