Here, perhaps, one of the smallest town halls of France.
History of the Town halls in France:

The municipality appeared gradually in France, but it is only in 1790 when a status of the municipality is exactly fixed the birth of the municipal movement goes back up to the XIth century. The life in the municipality is so going to have to get organized. In the XIIth century, the mayor makes his appearance. Indeed, since the municipality was recognized legally and politically, he had to be equipped with organs to represent it. According to time and places, we shall speak about peers, about aldermen or about councillors.

The word "Mayor" finds his origin in the Polyptique d' Irminon, decorates with right of an Abbot of Holy Germain Meadows in the IXth century, which employs the word " maior " when he speaks about the representative of the domain. It is the one who administers the village for the Lord.

It is by the mayor that the citizens are informed by the change of regime, elections, new laws. The impact of the mayor on his population thus becomes more and more important. The history of the mayors, is thus the history of a pulled function enter the central power and the administered, but it is also the history of an emancipation, and according to some, a victory of the democracy, it was only local.
